Oxygen Therapy Everyday  [ Return to  About Oxygen Therapy  ]

Oxygen Therapy Everyday

Some people take time to get used to their oxygen therapy. With continuous use of oxygen, many people have reported improved alertness, better sleep patterns and less shortness of breath, because their blood oxygen levels have improved.

With lifestyle changes ( i.e. smoking cessation, proper therapy compliance, etc. ) improvements in your condition are possible and less oxygen may be required. Some people, however, will need to use oxygen for the rest of their lives.

Changes that will be necessary include:

  • Wearing an oxygen cannula and getting used to having tubing on the floor.
  • Outings and trips will require careful planning. You will often need to order oxygen in advance to ensure that you have enough.
  • Receiving information on how you can best manage your therapy. Support groups, rehabilitation programs and Air Liquide Healthcare professionals can help.
  • Closely monitor your condition and watch for any increase in shortness of breath of mucous production. If you experience swelling of your ankles, morning headaches, or if you must sleep upright ( more pillows ), you should contact your doctor.
